Quinones-Hinojosa, M.D.

​

Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa (also known as "Dr. Q") is a neurosurgeon, author, and researcher. Currently, he is the William J. and Charles H. Mayo Professor and Chair of Neurologic Surgery and runs a basic science research lab at the Mayo Clinic Jacksonville in Florida. In recognition of his work, Dr. Quiñones-Hinojosa has received many awards and honors, including being named as one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in the U.S. by Hispanic Business Journal in 2008; as 2014 Neurosurgeon of the Year by Voices Against Brain Cancer, where he was also recognized with the Gary Lichtenstein Humanitarian Award; and by the 2015 Forbes magazine as one of Mexico’s most brilliant minds in the world. In addition, he is an editorial board member and reviewer for several prominent publications. Most notably, Dr. Quiñones-Hinojosa is the editor-in-chief for one of the most well-respected and widely read operative neurosurgical textbooks in the world – Schmidek and Sweet’s Operative Neurosurgical Techniques (6th edition). As well, he is one of the authors for Controversies in Neuro-Oncology, which was awarded first prize by the British Medical Association. Dr. Quiñones-Hinojosa also has published an autobiography, Becoming Dr. Q, about his journey from migrant farm worker to neurosurgeon, and recently Disney with Plan B Entertainment productions announced that his inspirational life story is going to be featured in a movie. Dr. Quiñones-Hinojosa is co-founder and serves as president of Mission: BRAIN, Bridging Resources and Advancing International Neurosurgery, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation.

Jordan J. Green, Ph.D.

Dr. Green was named by Baltimore Business Journal as one of the “40 Under 40” and by Popular Science as one of the “Brilliant Ten.” Dr. Green is also a Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Neurosurgery, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, and Materials Science & Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is co-founder and Associate Director of the Translational Tissue Engineering Center (TTEC) at JHU, co-founder and Associate Director of the Johns Hopkins Translational ImmunoEngineering Center (JH-TIE), associate researcher of the Institute for NanoBioTechnology, and member of the Bloomberg~Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy. Dr. Green received his B.S. in biomedical engineering and in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2003 and completed his Ph.D. in biological engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2007. Subsequently, Dr. Green was a postdoctoral associate at MIT in Institute Professor Bob Langer’s lab from 2007-2008. Dr. Green is also a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society, and Associate Editor at Science Advances. His research has resulted in the publication of over 130 papers, 80 issued or pending patents, and 100 invited talks, and he has received numerous awards including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Allan Colburn Award, the Biomedical Engineering Society Rita Schaffer Award, the American Society for Engineering Education Curtis W. McGraw Research Award, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, and is a National Academy of Medicine Emerging Leader in Health & Medicine. Dr. Green is a standing member of the National Institutes of Health NANO study section.

Jim Kyung-Soo Liew, Ph.D. 

 

Dr. Jim Kyung-Soo Liew is an Associate Professor of Finance at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and revels in pushing the boundaries of financial knowledge and product development both as an academic and FinTech entrepreneur. He has published pioneering research in the intersection of social media big data, blockchain, and financial markets. He currently teaches "Big Data Machine Learning AI," "Crypto-Currencies and Blockchain,” “Advanced Hedge Fund Strategies," and "Leading Entrepreneurship and Innovation" at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Additionally, he serves as the Chairman of the Johns Hopkins Innovation Factory and has received the Dean’s Award for Faculty Excellence 2015-2019. He is on the Editorial Board of The Journal of the British Blockchain Association, Journal of Alternative Investments and the Journal of Portfolio Management where he co-authored the most read Invited Editorial "iGDP?". Previously, Dr. Liew has been with the Carlyle Asset Management Group, Campbell and Company, and Morgan Stanley. He holds a BA in Mathematics from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in Finance from Columbia University. He currently resides just outside of Baltimore with his wife and two daughters, whom he hopes to raise as next generation disruptors.
